Church Policies

Child Protection Policy

Edgewater Lutheran Church has developed this policy to help us, as a Christian congregation, protect the children God has entrusted to our care. We live in a fallen world, and while we are called to minister within it, we are also called not to conform to it. Because of this tension, we must acknowledge the reality of sinful and harmful behavior, and intentionally plan to protect the vulnerable while offering help, care, and the restoring love of Christ to those in need.

This document brings together applicable state and federal requirements, practical guidance for recognizing signs of child abuse, clear procedures for screening employees and volunteers, guidelines for maintaining a safe environment, and a step-by-step action plan for responding if an allegation is ever made against a staff member or volunteer. While it may initially seem extensive, it is as concise as possible while still providing the information and tools we need. Our prayer is that this policy will safeguard our children and also provide supportive care and counseling for adults in need of healing.
